McFly - 5 Colours In Her Hair

What is the relationship between lyrics and visuals?
The main character of the video has five colours in her hair.... Like the song says. She is also shown to be different to her family, maybe not fitting into society.

What is the relationship between music and visuals?
The music is cut to the beat of the song, especially when the band are doing the performance section of the video. There is a lot various camera angles around the room, focussing on each band member. When the music slows down there is an empashis on the concept section of the video, where three of the band members have gone to the girls house to 'rescue' her from her parents. The takes are longer and the focus is on each band member distracting the family.

Are there close ups of the artist or star image motifs?
The emphasis in this video is on the band and the fact that they actually play their own instruments, the majority of the video is watching them perform. The band are shown to be fun and interesting, which is shown by all the bright colours and dancing people around them. The band are all wearing colourful clothes and playing colourful insturments, for example Harry's drum kit is electric blue. The song was written based on a television show at the time, and so the video reflects that in its style.
The girls are not particularly sexualised as the target audience is probably younger girls, parents would not allow their kids to buy a song where the girl is sexualised.

Is there reference to the notion of looking?
The main character, the girl with five colours in her hair, is shown to be watching tv which is showing the band at  a concert where people are watching the band perform. The band are still fairly young at this time, because of this it is clear that they want the emphasis to be on the music, although they are aware that they still have to be know individually, which is represented by the title credits at the start of the video where Danny and Dougies names are swapped around.

Are there intertextual references?
Although the song was written about a television show, it was not made for the show, so it mimicks the style of that show, which would become clear if you knew the programme, but it does not use any clips or actors.

The video is mostly performace based but also includes narrative parts.
