If I Were A Boy.....

Beyoncé Knowles, also known as Sasha Fierce, is signed to Columbia Records with girl group Destiny's Child, and Song BMG Music Entertainment as a solo artist.

If I were a boy was released in 2008 and was directed by Jake Nava. The song is a pop/R&B ballad. If I Were A Boy was released at the same time as Put A Ring On It (Single Ladies), with the ballad's on a separate disk to all her up tempo music. She said that she did this to show her two different personalities; her feisty stage persona, Sasha Fierce, and her normal self, Beyoncé Knowles. Both the videos were shot in black and white, which, personally, I think is a nice touch.

The song shows Beyoncé analysing the ideologies of a bad or tense relationship, she sings about what she would do if she were a boy and in that type of relationship, by doing this she also highlight the vulnerability of women.

This music video is really interesting in terms of the relationship between lyrics and visuals, because of the whole role reversal theme.

My husbands at work and has attractive girls flirting with him but he declines their advances. I have a guy flirting with me, and I flirt back. - Beyoncé Knowles
When she sings "I'd put myself first" we watch the husband denying an attractive girls flirtatious offer to go out with them, saying that he has to work, and then we watch him sit at home and wait for her to come home, whilst she is out with the guy.

Then later on as she is reaching the crescendo of the song she sings "it's a little too late". At this point in the video, the couple are at a party and Beyoncé is dancing with her police-officer-partner-person, in a sexy, flirtatious way, and her husband is watching, when she walks over to him and tries to kiss him and pretend that everything is fine and she wasn't just dancing in an inappropriate way with another man, he walks away from her.
